This article is an edited and abridged version of the executive
summary of a project funded to contribute to the work of the
Partnerships Against Domestic Violence. It describes a study which
aimed to investigate the relationship between domestic and family
violence as experienced by women (including those alone and those with
children) and homelessness. In particular, it explored issues that
can contribute to the national policy debate about the best options
or strategies to help women and children who live with or experience
domestic and family violence. Findings summarised here relate to
early intervention and prevention; legal responses; police; men's
services; outreach; women's refuges / shelters; emergency,
transitional and supported accommodation; longer term housing;
services for children; and supportive inter-agency approaches.
