Linux - Problema Glib

Hola, tengo el siguiente problema, y es ke cuando intento instalar cualquier programa hago esto y me da el siguiente error:

[root@dhcppc0 xchat]# ./configure

asi hasta que dice

configure: error: "Cannot find glib"

No se como solucionarlo. Uso la distribución MandrakeLinux 10.1

Te esta diciendo que has de tener una version de glib mayor o igual que la 2.0.3.
Asegura que la tienes instalada.

Muchas gracias por tu respuesta, he echo lo que me dijistes, he bajado una versión mas moderna y he echo 1 ./configure, un make y un make install y parece que todo correcto pero cuando he intentado hacer el ./configure al programa ke kiero instalar no hay manera, me sigue diciendo lo mismo. quizas lo haya instalado mal el glib asi que si no es con:
./configure
make
make install
dimelo asi podre instalarlo correctamente. muchas gracias.

Corre el comando ld-config e intentalo nuevamente.
