Asp genere HTML estándar

Hola a todos:
Estoy intentando que el HTML que genere ASP.NET se ajuste a un estándar. En las páginas les pongo:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd">
y en el Config:
<xhtmlConformance mode="Strict" />
pero sigue sin ajustarse al estándar...
¿Me puede orientar alguien sobre este tema?
