problemas de coneccion con windows xp

hola como estan espero que bien lo que pasa es que estoy trabajando con asp.net 2.0 en windows 2000 y quiero conectarme desde mi equipo al servidor que tiene una base de datos sql server 2000; el servidor es windows xp y no se por que me sale siempre este error

When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
